Lighten up over neon sign

I WISH Andy McTaggart (Gazette letters February 18 and March 11) would quit banging on about the East Beach Café's blue neon sign, which many of us find to be neither "intrusive nor unwanted".

But then, I suspect anything Jane Wood did with her excellent caf would be unacceptable to him.

Give the East Beach Caf a rest, live with it, it is here to stay.

I suggest he tries eating there, meeting the friendly staff, and maybe enjoy the excellent grub as I and many other diners do with great regularity.

As for "retro" neon being out of place on a seafront, perhaps a visit to Worthing or Brighton would enlighten his darkness – I suggest a visit to the American Diner on the latter's front, with at least four neon window signs there declaring the place to be open, as well as advertising its wares.

Littlehampton is, after all, a seaside town, and neon signs, treated as tastefully as the one declaring East Beach Caf to be open for business, is both discreet and acceptable to many of us.
