In the Gazette, there are often articles about LA as a seaside town but we don’t think anyone bothers to take it seriously!
Try not being a local but a visitor. There are lots of guest houses, holiday flats and caravan sites, filled with people who do not know the town.
Try driving in down the Lyminster Road to reach the beach. You WILL get lost in the narrow, windy and one-way streets. There are NO road signs anywhere pointing drivers to ‘The Beach’ or ‘P’ for car parks on the front or ‘Harbour Park Fun Ground’. None at all.
On the other hand, you will easily be able to reach the council offices as there are lots of such signs but what use are they to a visitor?
Even when you reach them, there are still no signs to the beach. Want to get to the swimming pool at Mewsbrook Park? You’ll be lucky!
If you approach Rustington on the A259, all the road signs say ‘Littlehampton’ – nothing else. Even on the Beach road, there are still no signs to say beach or parking.
The laugh is as you drive along Worthing Road, there are flag-style notices on the lampposts, promoting ‘Sussex by the Sea’. Really! But where? My joke is that they are lampooning the town.
Please, do have a whisper with people who matter and see if something can be done.
