It is difficult to understand the reasons behind recent criticisms of Rye Bookshop.

It is a most excellent bookshop in every way ~ range of stock, attractive layout and friendly, helpful staff.

Rye is fortunate in having it, from the point of view of residents and visitors alike.

Accusations that being part of Waterstones deprives some hypothetical independent local bookshop of a living are completely unfounded.

After Martello Boookshop closed, having sadly failed to find a buyer, Rye was bereft of a seller of new books for well over a year, before Waterstones stepped in ~ to the delight of everyone we’ve spoken to. Long may it thrive.
