Magical show took us to fairytale land

HOW do you judge a family show? Why, you look at and listen to the audience.

On Sunday night I took my six-year-old twin granddaughters to see Littlehampton Musical Comedy Society’s (L.M.C.S) version of Jack and the Beanstalk.

It was British pantomime at its very, very best.

All the children were transported into the fairytale and interacted with the cast throughout – a brilliant cast who were enjoying themselves as much as we did, and it showed.

Songs ranged from grandparents’ times to the present, so we could all sing and clap along with them, accompanied by very able musicians.

The jokes were of the moment but not smutty, so adults with children did not feel embarrassed.

Dedication and inspiration from all concerned made this a fantastic production and I fully intend to buy the DVD so the girls can relive this wonderful evening.

Well done, L.M.C.S. – keep up the good, old-fashioned British panto tradition.

Incidentally, if Littlehampton has one jewel in its crown it is the Windmill Theatre. The seating is the most comfortable along the south coast, with plenty of leg room (almost unheard of these days!).

It is very well tiered for viewing, just the right size auditorium, and has such friendly staff. What more could a town on the turn ask for?
