Make vandals pay

TODAY I travelled by bus from Bexhill to Hastings to buy some items for our troops in Afghanistan, from donations by the residents of the retirement complex, Peterhouse.

Viewing the disastrous remains of Hastings Pier, thus causing less employment, a traditional British attraction wiped out, and noting the fury of a few passengers on the bus, I wondered.

Our young troops are fighting, risking their lives daily, for our way of life, while other young are vandalising and showing complete contempt for their own traditions and way of life. All such offenders should be sentenced, ie trained as a carpenter, plumber or electrician, to work on and repair whatever they have destroyed until completely renewed, even if it takes years. And no pay!

Just then, maybe, such young will have respect for property and country.
