Master Joe Lok from Hong Kong holds workshops in Horsham

Master Joe Wai Man Lok visited Horsham on Thursday 11 and 18 June 2015 for his Phoenix Alchemy Qigong seminars with students of Earth Balance Tai Chi and the local Horsham community. Over the workshops he introduced the group to the ‘Taoist Open Door Five’, a calming sequence of movements that focus on calming the mind, relaxing the body and softening the breath.

Then came the Phoenix Alchemy Qigong movements themselves, looking at the mind and body connection, whilst maintaining an aligned and relaxed posture. Throughout the workshops Master Lok explained the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine with each movement, looking at the meridian channels in the body and movement of qi through the organs and channels. He also gave great importance to discussing our muscular skeletal health, looking at ways to release the pressure off the lower back, spine and shoulders that are chronically tight with our modern sedentary lifestyles. Explaining how the Qigong postures and movements work on an internal level of the physical body as a method for preventive and restorative health.

Student reviews:

“What a great workshop last night! Thank you so much for organising this Nicola and giving us the incredible opportunity to learn from the actual originator and creator of such a deeply and fundamentally beneficial qigong system, Master Joe Wai Man Lok. “The workshops was just so inspirational. Master Lok moves with such grace. He is so knowledgeable but more importantly he is happy to share what he knows. His teaching style is gentle yet very effective. I loved every minute of the workshop and can’t wait for the next one. Thank you.”

The Phoenix Alchemy Qigong system embraces Dragon Gate Alchemy and Wudang Sanfeng Natural Daoist Art. With slow and graceful movements for holistic health and wellbeing, the movements help to circulate energy through the meridians in the body according to Traditional medical heritage.

Joe Lok is the founder of the Natural Energy Academy in Hong Kong, he is the twentieth inheritor of the Dragon Gate Taoist tradition, a teacher of the internal martial art of Tai Chi and qigong. He hopes to return to Horsham in the autumn 2015 to share more of his qigong teachings. His website is www.joelok.com
