A May Queen, well dressing and morris dancing all featured in the afternoon’s celebrations on Thursday 1st May.

The Prep School gathered in the Senior School Hall as the May Queen and her attendants led a procession to the decorated well. Each class placed a well dressing picture at the well. Well dressing is a summer custom practised in Derbyshire in which wells, springs or other water sources are decorated with designs created from flower petals. The Rev. Paddy Beresford from St John’s Church, Broadbridge Heath gave thanks and blessed the well.

The Prep School sang the May Day carol and the Farlington Belles, the Prep School’s morris side, performed traditional morris dances, as did the two invited sides from Burgess Hill and Black Brook.
