Mean spectators hit bonfire collection

WHAT a pity that the amount donated to charity in the street collection during the recent firework night in Battle turned out to be a little more than £4000.

As reported in the Observer last week, a crowd of 25000 visitors turned out to witness yet another spectacular event created by the Bonfire Boyes and supporting societies. The sum collected works out as an average contribution of a measly 16p per head!

Just think if each adult had stumped up a £1 – a bargain for such exciting entertainment - then well over £20k would have been donated to the Boyes’ charity.

I can only imagine that something like 18,000 people must have enjoyed the whole thing with their hands firmly jammed in their pockets; have such cheapskates no shame?
