The day was facilitated by Horsham District Council, Sussex Central YMCA’s Young Person’s Alcohol Initiative and Horsham Matters.

The girls were split into four teams and had to devise a winning ‘mocktail’. Each team member had to take a different role: project manager, finance and costing, design and branding, mixologist and marketing.

The mixologist experimented with different flavours while others in the team worked on the product design, marketing, creating a logo and slogan. Representatives from the local community gave support and advice to the four groups.

One of the girls said, “They tasted delicious and I tried things I haven’t tasted before, it was good to experience lots of different flavour combinations. The drinks we made were vibrant and tasty and showed me that you don’t need alcohol to have a good time.”

The teams pitched the mocktail to a panel of judges made up of local business, health and youth work representatives.

The winning team of Rebecca Farman, Olivia Bell, Abi Hart, Vicky Jones and Anna Tetlow created a mocktail of mango and passion fruit juice with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, lemonade, grenadine and raspberries.

They called it ‘Mocktail # 1’ and their slogan was ‘just use the sign’. They will represent Farlington at South Lodge, Horsham at the Inter-school Mocktail Apprentice Final on 18th June 2014.
