'Morbid curiosity' for such a private matter

I COMPLETELY disagree with the letters and comments in your paper that call for Littlehampton Harbour Board to divulge personal and highly-sensitive information surrounding the departure of Colin Hitchcock from his post as harbourmaster.

The people who want this information, in my view, do so out of some morbid curiosity, or some misplaced idea that Mr Hitchcock is a public figure not entitled to the same level of privacy and protection that the laws of this land provide for the rest of us.

How would they feel if confidential disputes with their employer were plastered all over the papers without so much as a by-your-leave?

No one has the right to know the circumstances surrounding this matter other than Mr Hitchcock and the employer.

To divulge information of this nature would be grossly irresponsible.

If Mr Hitchcock wants to tell people, that is his privilege. The employer should never breathe a word to anyone, regardless of the issues. Mr Hitchcock has a right of, and is entitled to, complete confidentiality, which the employer should protect at all times.

Personally, I signed the petition to support Colin in his fight, I support his right to confidentiality, and I urge those nosey individuals to mind their own business and do the same.
