Nationally local?

THE present Arun local plan is really a national plan imposed locally.

The best thing about the Schofield plan, long ago in 1929, is that it was concise, and readily understandable by ordinary people. A welter of plans have risen and fallen since then.

A concise version of Arun’s 2012 plan would be appreciated – the main documents are impossible and not even indexed.

This plan is, therefore, one of a continuing series, with no evident concept or strategy for ending population or urban growth and intensification.

How, then, can that be sustainable, environmentally, socially, and economically?

Whatever is inflicted on us, we ought at least have houses built with usable rooms to the Parker Morris standard.

Does Arun need any more housing? With such a large, elderly age group in Arun, 10 per cent above the norm, a fall in population over the next decade might surely be expected, but for avoidable inward migration.
