Newbridge Nurseries has recently donated a large shed to the newly formed Community Allotment at the Chesworth allotment site, situated at the end of Arun Way in Horsham.

The shed will ensure adequate storage for all of the tools and equipment required to tend the allotment as well as being big enough to allow somewhere for people to go for some warmth and a cup of tea.

The newly formed community allotment is the brainchild of Transition Horsham, a local volunteer group, which is part of the Transition Towns movement. Transition Towns is concerned about the effects of climate change and peak oil and as a result, aims to build strong communities that can lower their carbon footprint through growing food locally, reskilling and recycling.

It is hoped that this new project will encourage people to think more seriously about growing their own produce by teaching them in a light-hearted and fun environment, thus also being a fun social venture, uniting people in the local community.

Nigel Wait, Managing Director of Newbridge Nurseries, commented: “I am delighted that we could help Transition Towns in their development of the Community Allotment.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in the local area to get involved in producing their own produce.

“We like to do things properly here at Newbridge Nurseries and what better way than to teach the local community how to ‘grow their own’.
