Ninth glitzy red carpet Collywood awards showcases creative talent

Collywood celebrated the achievements of Collyer’s most skilled and creative Media and Film Studies students and gave proud teachers the chance to show some incredible student work on the big screen. Teachers and other college luminaries presented a range of awards and the evening culminated in a paparazzi photo call!

Students George Grammer-Taylor and Tahnee Lovegrove did a superb job presenting a lively and entertaining evening.

During a brief technical hitch George wowed the audience with an impromptu dance routine! Categories on the night included ‘Best A2 Film’, ‘Best Performance’ and the ‘People’s Choice’ award.

Jonathan Nunns, Subject Leader for Media Studies, commented: “It was a terrific evening in celebration of the talent and hard work of our media and film students, we couldn’t be more proud.

“Special thanks to George Grammar-Taylor and Tahnee Lovegrove for hosting the show and helping to make the event such a success. Thanks also to Elliott Godden and Matt Ide for marvellous editing and design work, which was fundamental. Final thanks to our ex-student Beccy Skinner, for returning on the night to help us with technical support for the show.”

Mark Ramey, Subject Leader for Film said: “Aside from the exceptional work produced, a highlight was George our compare dancing on stage to cover a pause in proceedings.”

During a fun and glitzy night of high drama, the ‘Best A2 Film’ was won by Elliott Godden, Alice Monk and Lucy Tebb for their production of “Error 4”, while ‘Best A2 Film Script’ was awarded to Katie Witchell for “Folie À Deux”. ‘Best Performance’ went to the cast of media A2 project “Meet the Housemates”: Beth Dixon Cave, Louise Lord, Luke Sparling and Lucy Tebb.

Double award winner Lucy Tebb said: “I’m so shocked because everyone’s work was just incredible! Big thanks to the media and film department who taught us everything!”

‘Best A2 Media Audio Visual’ prize, for “Don’t Wear a Stereotype”, was awarded to Joely Frost. Matty Cepowicz (‘Broken Bond’ film posters) and Oli East (‘Ingranaggio’ fashion advertising) won ‘Best A2 Media Print & Web’ and Angus Davidson was thrilled to walk away with ‘Best AS Film’ for “Gemina”; while ‘Best Editing’ went to Alec Rychlik for “Awolnation Sail”. ‘Best Cinematography’ was awarded to Ross Keeley, Andee Lasham and Nikki Pankrashchenko for “The Change”.

‘Best AS Media Magazine’ went to Matt Compton for “Moda” and ‘Best AS Media Music Video’ was awarded to James Hoult, Tom Southon and James Zimmerman.

The highly anticipated ‘People’s Choice’ award, voted for by the Collyer’s public, was won by Jacob Hamilton, Hugo Vickers and Sam Winser for “Help I’m Alive”. Finally, the ‘Best Commissioned Project’ went to the Horsham Police awareness film “Is This Normal?” by Maddie Beeby, Emily Benstead, Jess Hart, Lucy Keeling; Nas Lamnouar, Lydia Railton, Liam Ruff, Louise Stanley; Arnold Thornton-Rice, James West and Hannah Williams.

Nas Lamnouar said: “It was a great night and it’s a great platform for us as students to show each other what we can do. Winning an award was a great achievement for me and it was a fantastic experience.”

Media teacher Stuart Andrews added: “It’s always wonderful to see students so supportive in celebration of each other’s achievements.”

Collyer’s Principal, Sally Bromley was delighted: “Collyer’s has an outstanding Faculty of Arts and Communication and Collywood is an excellent opportunity for our students to showcase their creative talent. We are grateful to the Capitol Arts Centre team for their support; a superb venue which gives a professional edge to the ceremony.”
