No back for bench

REFERENCING a letter in the Littlehampton Gazette (Gazette Letters, July 15), some time ago I wrote to one of our town councillors about the lack of a ferry, and of the railings of the west works at the river mouth, saying that I thought these things were tourist attractions and I received no reply.

In reply to the invitation of the editor of the Gazette for comments from the readers (Back the Bench, Gazette letters, July 15), I would like to say that I have never seen a seat with the slats lying so that they point into the sitter, instead of running the length of the seat. Neither have I seen a seat without a back.
