No more excuses

Just over a year after the last floods, and we have another flooding situation in Littlehampton (Gazette, August 29).

Let’s be fair about this, the excuses are becoming a bit thin now, for the extent of the flooding. Yet again it is caused by ‘flash flooding and a heavy deluge of rain’. The truth of the matter is our drainage systems are inadequate, with too much new housing being added, then a lack of maintenance causing them to being blocked.

Even though it has now been announced that there is going to an upgrade of the storm pumps in the pumping station by Southern Water, starting early this month, it’s a year too late, but better late than never,

However, this is just the tip of the iceberg, because I know of drains within the area that are blocked and have caused surface water without a heavy deluge. I have sent photographic evidence to the county council, highlighting my concerns for the residents of Littlehampton. So, when are the drains going to be unblocked and made operational properly?

I fully support Angela Tester and the Flood action Group and what they are trying to achieve and if she or any members require any help and support, they are most welcome to contact me, as I am already working with other groups within Littlehampton with similar concerns about flooding for now and the future.
