No wonder blood stocks are down

Having received a letter from the NHS blood and transplant department, reminding me to ‘Please Come & Donate’ your blood at Battle Memorial Hall Thursday, May 14, I duly rang for an appointment to be told the computer was down, but to turn up to the session anyway.

On arrival I was told that the session was fully booked and therefore was then turned away, having said that I was willing to wait, having made the effort to attend(on Thursdays I help run a club for the blind and visually impaired, which does not finish, including, myself returning people to their homes safely, by about 3.30pm, which I have mentioned to them on various occasions.

Other donors were also being turned away, having not been able to get appointments, and they could not in any way make an exception for me.

What a joke this is happening all the time, so we are given to believe, by the staff at the sessions.

I would like to add that I have given over 100 donations since starting in about 1958, and still able to donate, but feel very disappointed with this service now.

However I decided to ring for another appointment at the next session at the Emmanuel Centre, Harrier Lane, being held on Thursday, July 23,(in time I might add) to be told the sessions were fully booked.

As for them asking that any appointments made should be cancelled if they not able to keep them, to make room for others to donate,most people making the appointments make them for the reason, to fit in work and holidays etc.

So no wonder blood stocks are down.

What does one have to do to get an appointment?

We used to be able to drop in at any time, they are obviously not allowing for enough doctors and nurses/staff for the amount of people in this area who wish to donate.

Disappointed.
