Nothing but high praise for care

On February 17, I collapsed in Battle High Street about lunch time and ended up in the roadway.

The staff of Raggs Boutique witnessed this and called the emergency services, while Marilyn directed the traffic. People working in the Demelza Charity shop came out with towels, as I was bleeding profusely from the head (later diagnosed as a fractured cheekbone, eye socket and nose).

The police arrived and took control of the traffic and started to investigate who I was.

The ambulance followed quickly. I have no recollection of any of this, coming to only when in the ambulance.

Apart from an initial delay in A&E, I have only the highest praise for the medical staff from arrival, through SAU/Surgical and Gardner wards, plus the doctors from Eastbourne General Hospital, and wish, through your columns, to express my greatest appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all who helped an 83-year-old man through a difficult time.

To cap it all, the two policemen who helped at the scene, called at my house seven days later to see how I was getting on.

I found that very considerate, and very touching.
