Nothing to fear from leaving EU

Hopefully, we are about to leave the European Union and we will be a free and independent country and able to negotiate trade deals as such.

We have nothing to fear from being outside the European Union. We shall be stronger, safer and better off and we wouldn’t be concerned about the veto or negotiating with other countries.

This referendum is about ‘Who governs Great Britain?’

In his letter (Thursday, March 10), Mr Martin believes that we are better off in Europe, notwithstanding that with our contributions and benefits, it costs us £5billion a year to be members.

It is for Mr Martin to outline the benefits of membership.

For too long we have been controlled and dictated to by Brussels.

In the 1970s, we had a referendum on the European Economic Community which went on to become the European Community and on to the European Union - the latter two being without the consent of the British electorate.

When the Prime Minister was ‘negotiating’ this so called deal, I saw in The Times that the British Prime Minister was discussing our future with the Chancellor of Germany, the President of France and (of all people) the Prime Minister of Greece.

Having read the letter from Mr Martin, it would appear that he prefers the idea of being controlled by Brussels.

There is more to this referendum than one Government report but he should have the confidence and faith in this country to be able to control our own destiny. It may be that Mr Martin has no pride in his country.

In a recent interview in The Times, Boris Johnson compared the European Union to Spectre.

Great Britain has a unique role in the world but this requires independence country.

We may be a small island nation but our influence and contribution to World affairs knows no boundaries. London is a global city and is the world’s financial capital.

People come to Great Britain from all over the world, whether it be from Commonwealth, the Americas, the Middle East or Far East and that is regardless of whether we are in Europe or not.

It is time for the return of national pride as an independent sovereign nation – free of interference of any other countries or group of countries, free to make our own decisions and return to being the world’s superpower.

This country has a glorious history and twice last century we stood alone against evil

in Europe. We trade with

the world.

It is the national leaders in Europe who want to thwart our global influence. In Europe, we are one of 28 countries. Outside of Europe, we can be ourselves – British – and not European and would not have to concern ourselves with the voting rights and the veto.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to escape from Europe and shape our own country.

What is more – Europe does not play cricket!
