Orphans helped thanks to charity shop generosity

I AM writing to express the appreciation of the club to all members of the community in Rustington who recently generously supported our charity shop there.

We were very fortunate to have raised some 2,250 in our two weeks, and we are grateful to all those who both donated items for us to sell and, of course, everyone who bought goods from us.

The money raised will enable the club to finance our share of a project to help Aids orphans in Estcourt, Natal South Africa, as we are working with the Estcourt Rotary Club to pay for all the costs of feeding, clothing and maintaining 75 orphan children for a period of six months.

We have applied to the trustees of the Rotary Foundation, our own international charity, for a grant towards the cost of the project and we have also received a grant from our own Rotary District; so in total, we expect to provide 10,500 to support these needy children.

I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the owner of the shop for letting not only Rotary, but many other local charities, use the premises to raise funds for their good causes. I am sure that all the charities who have benefited would like join with the Rotary Club in expressing our joint appreciation of the owner/agent's very public-spirited help at this difficult financial period.
