Oxfam looking for volunteers

We at Oxfam situated in 96a Montague Street, Worthing, would like to make the public aware of our many volunteering opportunities.

We are a quality second hand book shop with a good number of regular customers, often complimenting us on our shop layout and friendliness.

We also have an online shop on the first floor where we sell clothing, books, bric a brac and music.

We are open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sundays 11am to 4pm and currently have a wonderful group of volunteers who help us raise much needed funds to support under developing countries through out the world. We are always in need of volunteers on both floors due to people moving away or gaining paid employment.

The bookshop duties involve sorting and pricing donated books, bric a brac, music and merchandising both on the shop floor and in the window.

We give good till training and customer care to give all our customers a good shopping experience at Oxfam.

We also sell new product which is either fairly or ethically traded and need help to manage this branch of our business.

Online we need people to list goods for sale. Full training given but, behind the scenes, work is essential to help us offer the best possible product.

We sort goods, clean and steam where necessary, photograph everything and finally list items after researching the best possible price.

Volunteering has many advantages because it can help people make friends, help with a possible bereavement process and loneliness or depression, by providing a focus, with the added advantage of supporting so many disadvantaged people in the process.

Oxfam can help with training for paid work by giving work experience and a references if needed.

Sometimes Oxfam is useful as a gentle stepping stone to assist with confidence issues or help people newly moving into the area to make friends.

Experience is not necessary but people who have an interest in fashion, antiques, books music merchandising or even admin work would find volunteering particularly useful and interesting.

If this is for you please contact Teresa on 07932042759 or call into our shop for a chat, we will be very glad to see you.
