Rother Planning Committee agreed on March 16, for the second time in five months, to approve a planning application to build 16 houses in Brede Lane, Sedlescombe.

Now, the saga continues with an agreement in the village to take the matter to judicial review which could cost all Rother Council taxpayers more than £80,000 and a further request for the application to be called in by the Secretary of State, all because of the draft Neighbourhood Plan.

The Neighbourhood Plan is now with the Examiner and it is hoped that he will see through the campaign to stop any development at Street Farm no matter what development is proposed in other, more prominent, parts of the village.

The community benefits that are offered with the Street Farm application should also have been given publicity during the Neighbourhood Plan process.

These are the building numbers (maximum) proposed in the Neighbourhood Plan: Sunningdale, off Gregory Walk 9, Pestalozzi 8, Sawmills 8, Church 8, Gate Cottage 8, Church Hill Farm 22, Balcombe Green 8 and Pumphouse Yard 2. A total of 73 properties when Sedlescombe was only asked to identify 35!

Add Street Farm and the total rises to 89, not forgetting a further seven which are being built next to Gate Cottage and the 17 replacement dwellings now being built at Roselands.

Sedlescombe parish will be a building site for years to come. Do we really want this Neighbourhood Plan to succeed in blighting our lovely village for years to come?

What is worse, in the letter to Rother about the judicial review, the Parish Council is actually bragging that “Sedlescombe’s Plan will over deliver against its required contribution”.

Is that really what everybody voted for?
