You kindly published a letter from me in which I expressed my concerns about the new street parking charges in Rye, and how they would have a negative effect on shops, cafes, etc, in the town.

I’m writing again to point out my concerns about the parking ticket machines which have been installed in various locations around the town.

The law requires that the parking charges (for one hour, two hours, etc) must be “prominently displayed”, but these are nowhere to be seen until you actually start to use the ticket machines - at which point a small, digital, confusingly laid out schedule of charges appears in a very small screen on the machine itself. This does not satisfy the law. If motorists refuse to pay any penalties issued, because the machines do not comply with legal requirements, the council will have only themselves to blame.
