Plague of pencil

I BUY at least five books each week from the various charity shops in Littlehampton – and I have discovered there is a secret book editor who also does the same.

I will find that commas, full stops and other punctuation marks have been added, words that might be difficult are underlined and then the meaning is written (always in pencil) underneath.

Whilst I understand that this maybe helps the “secret editor” it’s really annoying.

I wonder if the person does this for a living or just that they are a perfectionist?

Whoever you are, please stop, or erase once you have read the book.

This letter is written in the spirit of free speech and free reading, without seeing the editing that comes before publishing.

Anyway, the person who does this is a “kindred spirit” and likes the same books as me – so see you “in pencil” soon!
