Postman’s van will cause problems

For the last 15 years post has been delivered in an efficient and timely manner to houses along Hastings Road, Battle, by our trusted postie using his pedal cycle.

We hear rumours that this service is to end and be replaced by deliveries using a postal van.

Anyone who knows this stretch of road will immediately recognise the impact of a postal van stopping every 100m or so on the kerb in relation to the flow of traffic.

Other considerations must include the safety to road users and pedestrians as there are very few natural off-road spaces available meaning a van will undoubtedly remain stationary blocking the pavement, which is hideously thin in some places already.

The proposal will increase costs to the Post Office in relation to vehicle maintenance and fuel, will cost the environment, will cost road users and will cost us living in the area as the impact on our health and safety is obvious.
