I am tired of reading in the Littlehampton Gazette what Arun District Council cabinet member Paul Dendle wants, what Mr Dendle would like for Littlehampton.

Surely it is up to Arun to decide what the people of Littlehampton want, and they have voted overwhelmingly for the swimming pool and the Windmill Entertainment Centre to remain where they are.

I have used the pool four or five times a week for more than 20 years, have heard no complaints about it and who says it is not suitable? It is open seven days a week, from 6.30am-10pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 7.30am-10pm on Sundays, catering for all age groups, schools and the disabled, and I feel quite confident in saying it probably pays for itself.

The Windmill, now it has digital projection equipment and is beginning to have live relays of shows and musicals from London, no doubt with operas and concerts to follow, is attracting a far greater audience.

Many people were incensed by a statement Mr Dendle made in a local magazine last month, informing us he voted ‘yes’ to developments on green fields, ensuring the lucrative windfall from the developers for future us, fearing that, if he didn’t vote that way, the plans would go to appeal.

We all appreciate the valuable site where the Littlehampton Swimming and Sports Centre stands. It is priceless. One of the very few like it left on the Sussex coast. Oh yes, what a lucrative windfall that would provide!

No, the people of Littlehampton do not want to become like Worthing, with a promenade lined with flats, or the nightmare Bognor Regis has become. We must cherish and preserve what we have for future generations.

Is Littlehampton to become nothing but blocks of retirement flats and its seafront lined with flats? As it is, Church Street is disappearing and what about the hospital site which has sat empty for almost ten years?
