Proud to be chief

I was pleased to see from last week’s letters page that my column in the Worthing Herald/Littlehampton Gazette has a reader.

It is good to have feedback and I have duly taken note of the suggestion that I should stick to writing about the life of St Barnabas House hospice. I had thought that including a little additional information about my family might have made the article more personally engaging for readers.

However, I am aghast at the impression I have apparently created of myself as someone who is liable to splash out on expensive holidays. In my ten years as chief executive of St Barnabas, I have worked with and met many people in the local area – all those who know me would agree that I am notoriously careful with money, both my own and, of course, that of the charity.

I am so proud to be the chief executive at St Barnabas and most grateful to the Herald for printing my column.
