Prudent planning

HAVING recently seen the articles in the Gazette concerning the North Littlehampton development nightmare, I feel it prudent to bring to the attention of the planners the overlooked inadequacy of water supply and pressure.

I have been a plumbing and heating engineer in the town for 35 years. In more recent years following new builds, I have been called to more and more homes in the older parts of Littlehampton by customers experiencing low pressure to combination boilers and electric showers.

At peak times it is impossible for them to take showers, due to their appliance cutting out and the low pressure warning light appearing. The problems are similar with our drains and sewers being overloaded.

Yet, with another planned increase in houses, the problem can only get worse, and the misery of many will increase.

When you couple this with overcrowded roads, lack of schools, doctors, dentists and mass unemployment in the area, one despairs.

They go on to promise leisure centres, community centre and youth clubs. Hold on a minute, where’s our hospital? I doubt we will get half of what is promised, and what we do get will be closed down within two years, due to lack of funding.

Regardless of all logical reasoning and all objections, it’s all been rubber stamped years ago and the planners, developers and council will do as they will.
