Public speaking competition

A fiercely competitive and competent field of young public speakers made the job of the judges of the Rotary Club “Youth Speaks” competition held at The Weald School on Tuesday 14 January incredibly taxing.

The range of subject matter and the overall standard of the joint presentations were both heart-warming and impressive; for the employment market of the future it is good to know that we are developing fluent and articulate speakers. This year the team of Keir, James, and Henry, lifted the trophy supplied by Billingshurst Rotary, and a welcome cash prize for their challenging speech on the “Super-Size Nation” debate. Sophie and Hannah won the individual prizes for Best Chair and Best Speaker, with Jemima picking up the Best Vote of Thanks award. James’ team will go on to the next heat on 8 February, being hosted at the Weald School.
