I just wanted to write to query the logic of the council’s thinking on jobs cuts and redundancies for Eastbourne’s tourism and theatres staff.

Obviously I understand the global pandemic will have lead to a shortfall in the council’s tourism/events income but it seems shortsighted to make experienced staff redundant when in all likelihood next year will see a return to a large degree of normality.

How much will it cost to train new staff? The money spent on redundancy will surely outweigh any gains when it comes to starting from scratch and training new staff – I believe when a redundancy is made you are unable to re employ the person you made redundant back into the ‘redundant’ job (although I stand to be corrected on this).

Maybe the council could spend a bit more time lobbying central government for the money it believes it is owed?

Maybe we could waste a little less money on illuminating the town hall at Christmas which runs into hundreds of thousands of pounds?

Maybe we could spend a little less on yet another Eastbourne rebrand?

Just a thought.
