Rail disruption response

What is it with politicians and their dislike of admitting that they may have been wrong?

Mr Merriman MP made the claim that SouthEastern were to blame for the disruption on the Hastings line on Mondays & Tuesdays.

When it is pointed out to him that this is incorrect, instead of apologising he doubles down on his attacks on SouthEastern.

This smacks of desperation and merely shows that Mr Merriman is one of those people who just cannot help themselves when it comes to jumping on any passing bandwagon. His comments about ownership are an attempt to move the goalposts and hid the fact that he was wrong. Just one more small (but to me, important) point.

I have taken the time to ensure that when I refer to Mr Merriman I am using the spelling of his name that the Observer itself has used.

I do this because I believe it to be polite to do so.

What a great pity that Mr Merriman doesn’t do the same.
