Rail link

I was very interested to read of Nick Herbert’s idea of a rail link from Lyminster to Arundel as an alternative route to divert Brighton to London trains when problems occur. There are several problems to this plan.

Trains from Brighton can only run west from platforms one or two and these platforms are fully used by scheduled services to Worthing and beyond. It is also impossible to run the necessary empty trains from Brighton carriage sheds direct to platforms one or two, so it would entail running up to Preston Park, down to Hove and back into Brighton.

It is very easy to visualise chaos.
