Ration boosters

RE.Neil Robertson's letter on cherry plums (Gazette, August 12), I knew of the cherry plums about 70 years ago, and after my sister and I visited the site several times, a worker from the estate said to us: "These belong to Lord Moyne", so we did not go there again.

My mother used to make pies with them, to eke out our rations, and we ate them for fruit, which was not available then, but that was the end of that.
