Response to a previous letter

Now that the local elections have taken place, I am legally at liberty to respond to the letter from Ann Martin, published in your paper.

As the candidate who I believe was identified in her letter by reference to a quote from my election literature, I feel that this could have potentially affected my campaign and I feel that this was undemocratic.

As those who actually saw my election leaflets will attest, they neither mentioned nor alluded to any connection whatsoever with the Southlanders group, and so I feel that her decision to claim that it did, was wrong.

Although her letter might account for a few of the 20 votes that kept me from winning, this isn’t ‘sour grapes’. I am just professional enough not to break the rules regarding the publication of material likely to affect the result of an election.

I would like to publicly thank the people who ignored the distributed disinformation and gave me their vote.

Kieran Francis

Labour Party candidate for Southlands ward
