Revenue over residents?

Anyone who lives in or drives through the beautiful old town of Battle these days cannot fail to notice the number of cars parked illegally.

Whether it be on double yellow lines, in the taxi rank or in the marked bus stop areas.

The results of which are congestion, frustration and a degradation of already reduced public services.

Cuts to the public services budget in recent years mean less officers out on the street issuing tickets but there never seems to be a lack of parking attendants patrolling the council run car parks.

Car parks which charge a minimum of £1, regardless of how long you wish to park.

Perhaps if the charges were more reasonable, 30 minutes for 50p or even 20 minutes for 30p, more people would use these parking areas instead of parking illegally.

If not, then surely there must enough revenue from the three pay-and-display car parks to either employ a traffic warden, to keep our high street clear of illegal parkers, or extend the range of duties of the current car parking attendants to also cover the high street.
