Roads disappointment

DURING these times of budget cuts, potholes in the roads, which could be defined by some as traffic calming measures, I find it hard not to express even more disappointment in the way the authorities seem to ignore the abuse of the law by the giant retailers.

I am sure there will be some who will say this is just sour grapes by a very small retailer, but I am also a resident and tax payer. Why should there be one law for them and another for everyone else, why do the police turn a blind eye to articulated lorries backing across the pavement and then parking on it, at Collington Mansions?

I have received numerous calls from fellow residents complaining about the dangers to pedestrians, the damage to the footpath all being caused by the authorities failing to police the situation properly. I do hope when the resurfacing of the pavement is commissioned those who caused the damage will be charged with the cost of repair.

Why is that when the planning application was considered for the new store in Little Common, that the Highways Department of ESCC and RDC could not insist on improved arrangements for deliveries? Especially when the county council spent so much council taxpayers’ money installing a new pelican crossing to improve pedestrian safety.

Finally if any member of the public was to park within the zigzags by the pelican crossing they would be prosecuted, but two articulated lorries that completely obscured the signals were completely ignored by a passing police car, why?

Perhaps the county councillors for the areas in question are already on the case, but if not, I am sure the district councillors will bring it to their attention.
