Roasting over old chestnut

I HATE to be a bearer of gloom, but all the efforts at repainting the road junction at the Roundstone level crossing have been a complete and utter waste of time and money.

Today, while waiting to cross over from Worthing Road to Old Worthing Road, all the cars in front of me had to give way to at least a dozen assorted cars, vans, lorries and buses, all of which barged their way in from North lane.

When my turn came, I was about to go over the crossing when a small white car transporter drove straight in front of me, causing me to brake suddenly. A good job the driver of the car behind me had his/her wits about them or I would have had a severely dented car.

Maybe the driver of the above transporter (R-registration) will read this and offer an explanation, although I doubt it.

Isn't it about time a "proper" job is done? What about moving the stop line in North Lane further back and putting a box junction in front of it.

Highway code rule 174 states you must not enter a box junction unless your exit is clear.

Alternatively, how about getting a police officer to monitor the junction at busy times (morning and evening rush hour) and start issuing tickets?

Sooner or later someone is going to get hurt.

When I contacted Littlehampton police station I was told that this is an "old chestnut".

If it's that old, let's have some action.
