Rotary Club of Cranleigh’s annual carol concert

It was standing room only as parents and young people enjoyed listening to the choirs of St. Cuthbert Mayne, Cranleigh Church of England Primary and Park Mead Primary schools. They were ably accompanied by members of the Cranleigh Youth Wind Band and the Cranleigh Youth Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Cheryl King.

The compere for the evening was Rev’d Roy Woodhams, the recently arrived Rector of St. Nicolas Parish Church. Rev’d Woodhams also introduced the true message of Christmas by getting some young volunteers to unwrap a parcel, with each layer of paper representing the different meanings of the religious festival.

The retiring collection raised £387 for the Rotary Charity Fund, which is used to help community projects.

“Once again the people of Cranleigh have shown tremendous generosity, in spite of the difficult economic climate,” said Rotary President, David Gill. “The Club is also very grateful to Santa Fir, which kindly provided the Christmas tree for our concert.”

The Rotary Club of Cranleigh’s next fundraising activity is a three-day street collection (accompanied by Father Christmas), which will be held in the main shopping centre 19 - 21 December.
