Roundabout will be a disaster

I saw the plans for the new ‘hidden road’ linking the Hastings/Bexhill Link Road to Ninfield Road, with a roundabout on Watermill Lane.

I am not opposed to the road, as it was stated earlier this year that is was designed to remove the additional traffic arising from the new development, north of Sidley , to the Ninfield Road, with a bridge over Watermill Lane.

However, the present planning application RR/2015/2260/P shows a roundabout on Watermill Lane which is crazy, as it will give all that traffic from the Link Road, literally thousands of houses , a new rat run to Catsfield and Battle.

It will utilize Watermill Lane, a narrow country lane with no footpaths, high hedges and an official width restriction at the bridge.

Already there are numerous bumps, scrapes and hold-ups along the lane and to propose a massive traffic increase from the North Sidley Development is simply ludicrous

The residents of Watermill Lane were looking forward to the opening of the Link Road and the resultant diminution of the rat run traffic that we have endured for the last few years, we really do not want it to return in the opposite direction, and it will, if the roundabout is built.

Construct the ‘hidden road’ if you have to but please, please reinstate the bridge and not a roundabout.
