Rudgwick Preservation Society gears up for Spring and Summer

The speaker is David Bonner from the Environment Agency in Worthing talking about “Floods in Sussex, How are we going to manage them?”, focusing on the work of the Environment Agency in responding to the flood hazard on our rivers and coastline, and managing risk.

He will pay particular attention to issues on the River Arun. With memories still fresh from the winter of 2013-14, and climate change, this topic is of interest even in this year’s dry April. All are welcome, members free, visitors £2.

The Society’s Summer Walks programme begins on Tuesday 5th May at The Fox, Bucks Green leaving at 7.00pm, returning to the pub in ample time for a pint.

All our Tuesday 7.00pm evening walks are open to everyone, dogs too, and are listed on our website page, rps-rudgwick.org/walks.

This year, the 150th anniversary of the opening of Rudgwick station, and the 50th anniversary of its closure, we are highlighting several walks including sections of the Downs Link.

One in particular, on 26th May, leaves from the Milk Churn Coffee Shop in Lynwick Street for a loop around the village taking in the station site, and ends with cheese on toast and coffee for a fiver, by kind permission of the owners, Bookham-Harrison Farms Ltd. If you only come on one walk choose this one, and learn about the Horsham to Guildford line as you walk!
