Samaritans celebrate 40 years

The Bishop of Horsham, the Rt. Rev. Mark Sowerby, Patron of the Horsham Samaritans Branch, attended the charity’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

They marked the special day at an event held at Lavina House on Wednesday, June 5.

Cllr Christian Mitchell, vice chairman of Horsham District Council, said: “I was delighted to attend the AGM of the Horsham branch of the Samaritans. And as this year was their 40th anniversary it was an especially important occasion.

“Their achievement over the past 40 years of working in and around Horsham is testament to the hard work of the volunteers and staff,” he continued. “As a local branch of the Samaritans they are entirely self-funding and could not do the good work that they do without the continued generous support of the public.

“I wish to pay tribute to the volunteers and to their Chairman and Director for the valuable and and hard work that they do in our community and no more so is this needed in these difficult times.”
