Seal welcome:Dog mess isn't

READING the report on the Bexhill seal seen at Herbrand Walk, I had to reply because as a resident I regularly beach-cast from various spots on Bexhill beach with other local fishermen and we have often seen the seal, we assume it is the same one.

At times it is so close to the beach we can clearly see its large dark eyes as if staring at us, waiting for the return of the fish we catch.

I also read with interest the report by M.Hudson, of Sidley, in the March 11 issue, on dog mess, as I also have to deal with this problem when on Bexhill beach fishing with other residents.

We often make a point of picking up other people’s rubbish that may be lying around us.

There was one occasion when I gave chase to a plastic bag I dropped and caught, which brought applause from individuals on the promenade.

So why can’t all dog owners pick up their pets’ mess?

On three occasions this year we have had unleashed dogs relieve themselves on our fishing equipment.

On bringing this to the attention of the owners they became quite aggressive.

Our concern is that with the better weather soon upon us more children will be venturing onto the beach, and dog faeces are not easily recognisable on a pebble beach.

It’s not that these owners have to take their dog faeces home with them because there are ample dog mess bins along the Bexhill seafront.

I do hope you print this in your very popular paper for the benefit of so many I listen to who feel this unhealthy situation is on the increase in the Bexhill area.
