See work of talented artist with Aspergers on display at Nymans

Ned, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, entered the “Inspired by Nymans” competition alongside dozens of other local artists, all using a wide range of artistic styles and techniques. You can view their work at the ‘Inspired by Nymans’ exhibition at Nymans from 6th December.

Ned Razzell has been mentored and supported by Gabrielle Anya Rafello of the Independent Lives Charity. Gabrielle says: “He has developed great skill in drawing and can easily translate this into a huge variety of interesting cartoon characters and stories that appeal to all ages.

“He is passionate about comic book strips and animations, and has a desire to carve a niche for himself within this field.”

Ned visited Nymans to gain inspiration for his work; he collected information about the Messel family (who owned Nymans) and the fascinating story behind their colourful house and garden.

Gabrielle says: “It provided the opportunity to work on one finished piece and he is now using what he learnt in that project to create a story for young children. His confidence and enthusiasm have increased as a result”.

In his piece entitled ‘Nymans Revisited’, Ned has recreated the main characters from the Nymans story that span three generations. Using pen, ink and watercolour, he portrays the history of the Messel family in a light hearted and humorous tone, bringing them to life once again.
