Selfish motorists

I AGREE with D D Shadwell (Letters, August 19). Far too many motorists are, it would appear both thoughtless and selfish.

This would include the driver and passenger of the vehicle parked on the corner of St Leonards Road yesterday, across the dropped kerb (put in place for disabled people), busy loading their car oblivious to the two wheelchair bound persons plus carers who were unable to access the ramp.

This would also include those who park in loading bays, meaning that our shops have difficulty in getting their stock in (by the way, a disabled badge does not entitle the holder to park in these bays).

This would include those who appear to believe that pavements are provided for motorists to enjoy off-road parking and are not there for pedestrians.

Maybe it is time for the local council to take over parking enforcement as the local police are either too busy or are just not interested in doing so themselves.
