Shame for belittling retirement party

How sad that the event (including the attendance of the High Sheriff) organised for our Town Clerk’s retirement, has been so belittled; firstly by two Councillors expressing their opposing views through the Letters page of the Observer, then the, to what many would feel was the disrespectful headline to the article in last week’s Observer – ‘Council cuts funding for Clerk’s do’, and finally, in the current issue of Townlife, under the heading ‘New Town Clerk appointment’ no mention is made of the immense contribution Mr Peter Mills has made to the administration of Battle during his thirteen year tenure. Shame on you all.
