Shoddy progress
In this day and age it seems we have reached a sorry state of affairs when confronted by a stranger in the precinct asking where the Littlehampton’s shoe shop is and I have to reply that we do not have one.
He carries on, saying what about Stead & Simpson? My reply: “They have gone away, we do not have a shoe shop.”
I’m sure that when he moved on he was still not convinced. When this was a much smaller town, the directory for 1968/69 listed four shoe shops...
