The Judges, Harry & Pip Goring were absolutely wonderful, and took so much time looking at each window, talking to the shopkeepers and getting soaked when the rain poured down at the beginning of the Walk About !

As usual, the quality of the entries was absolute superb, and it was evident that so much time and effort had been put into producing the displays. Everyone should have won, but that is not possible, and hard decisions had to be made.

This year there were two categories, one for Foodie Shops and one for Non-Foodie shops – prize money for both categories was generously sponsored by the Steyning & District Business Chamber.

The winner of the Foodie Section, was The Cobblestone Tea House – a war time food theme had been used, to tie in with the anniversary of the Great War.

The meticulous attention to detail was incredible; old posters, models & memorabilia were in place, which had obviously been difficult to source.

The Tea House won last year, but our judges were completely unaware of this, so a completely unbiased decision. What a reputation Eddie Woodward and his team are building for producing first class entries!

Second Place went to Hut Stuff – a fabulous window of sea food, maritime objects and fun sign hoardings.

Third prize went to Chez Joel, with their wonderful window of “good enough to eat” produce; the golden pastry pie coming out of the oven just in time to be placed in the window, as the Judges arrived!

In the Non-Foodie section, First Prize went to St. Barnabas House – their window was again meticulous in detail, and the battered edition of a Mrs. Beaton cookbook took pride of place.

Second Prize went to The Baby Boutique in Cobblestone Walk – their tiny window showing a Beach BBQ, was quite outstanding and had obviously been created with so much thought.

Third Prize went to OXFAM, who had taken a completely different slant to the Food Theme – they concentrated on Food or Famine, identifying the continuing difference between food available in the Sub-Saharan Africa continent against food wasted within the rich countries of the world – a sobering thought.

Here’s to next year, and more fantastic windows from the High Street of Steyning.
