Should have let pitch comments be

IN response to Phillip Bye's letter (Gazette, March 18), how much dirty linen do you think you have just washed, Mr Bye, not doing it the British way?

I have also looked at the two offending words "poor pitch" that were written in a football match report.

On the same pages, Rustington v East Preston mentioned "a challenging playing surface" and Westfield v Littlehampton "a tough surface".

Sometimes in a match report it is written – in windy conditions, on a grassy pitch, in wet conditions, on a bumpy pitch.

Do I need to say more?

If Mr Bye had been at the game he would have seen for himself that the playing surface was not to its usually high standard.

People from all the sports representing Climping are volunteers, using up their spare time, and for many it actually costs them money!

Maybe you should have taken a leaf out of your own book and contacted myself at the football club, before putting pen to paper.

You would have found out that the football club had offered to roll and cut the pitch, to take some of the load off the groundsman.
