The event, organised by Kate Armstrong (10) and her sister Rachel (eight), included the sale of chocolate, lemon drizzle and sponge cakes, as well as cupcakes and individual slices of cake. Thai curry and rice was provided by local resident Jai Walker, and was a popular option on a chilly day.

A Christmas cake made to a 150-year-old recipe, iced and decorated, was raffled, contributing £62 to the overall total, and the lucky winner was Alex Maynard.

Kate and Rachel had read about the work done by Crisis and wanted to do something to help homeless people this Christmas. They also contributed small items they had made for children to the sale.

They said: “We want to thank everyone who supported this event and we can now pay for two homeless people to spend Christmas at a Crisis Centre and enjoy hot meals, when they would otherwise be on the streets.”
