Following on from last year’s successful fireworks display, Rydon Community College held their second ‘Firework Spectacular’ on Thursday of last week.

It was well attended by more than 3,000 parents and children who watched a fantastic 20-minute show of bangs, wizzies and a light show of colour, all set to music by the pyrotechnic company Aurora.

As an ‘Enterprise’ school, the Bank of Rydon helped the pupils run their stalls where they borrowed money to buy their merchandise and hopefully made a profit from selling cakes and through games like Beat the Goalie. There were plants on sale from the school’s allotment scheme; the DT department were selling bird feeders and candles and Harris’s funfair kept the children entertained with rides. There was a Beer Tent for mum and dad and FORSA did a brilliant job in keeping the queues to a minimum with a non-stop supply of hot dogs and burgers to keep everybody fed. Mrs Murphy, Rydon’s head teacher, said: “Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces sharing in the Community spirit was a sheer joy.”

The college would like to thank everyone for their support and hope all enjoyed the evening. The money raised is going towards the college minibus.
