Sporting accolade for Cranleigh Prep

Having consulted a wide range of education experts, parents, pupils and league tables, Emma Lee-Potter, Editor, and Janita Clamp put together their guide to the best independent schools in the country.

After another year of celebrating sporting triumphs, with inter-school, county and national successes across a wide range of sports, it is no surprise that Cranleigh Prep has been tipped as the prep school to watch. In hockey, the U13 girls won their 4th national title in six years and both the U11 boys and U10 girls are Surrey hockey champions, with the U10 girls also winning the regional championships.

The 1st rugby team won all their matches last season, with three boys selected to play for the U13 Lambs South East team and two boys for the Harlequins. On the football pitch, nine boys were selected to play for the South Central region and the U11 boys’ team was unbeaten. The School’s swimming team remains unbeaten, with a national swimmer for the U11 boys who broke five national records in one day.

Cranleigh Prep pupils have been selected for an extensive range of national and county teams; they were national finalists in athletics, netball and triathlon, with individuals also winning national medals for climbing and riding (six riders competed in the nationals and brought home bronze and silver medals, as well as winning the Grassroots Regional Championships).

Headmaster, Michael Wilson, said: “I don’t know how easy it is to categorise something like this but it is good to be in the frame. We are very lucky to benefit from the great facilities and coaching provided by the Cranleigh Sport 7-18 initiative with our Senior School and grateful for the support we receive from our parents.”
